We’re currently enjoying a dazzling summer but as any local knows, winter will be here before we know it. Remember last October when Truckee was treated to fall colors AND fresh snow?! Keep reading to find out what’s new for Truckee-Tahoe’s 2022-2023 winter season then cue up some ski videos and get stoked for skiing and riding!
Winter Predictions – Triple Dip La Niña?!
The latest news from OpenSnow on Aug. 23rd has us feeling giddy about Truckee-Tahoe’s upcoming ski season. According to meteorologists, this winter is shaping up for a third consecutive La Niña, dubbed the “Triple Dip La Niña”.
And this one could be a banger. Current predictions show a “robust” and “significant” La Nina event. For comparison, the last significant La Niña episode occurred back in 2010, and let’s just say if you know, you know! A “banner year” for many resorts in the Western US, Palisades Tahoe recorded 783″ or 173% of normal!
Of course, there’s uncertainty looking at the long-range forecast months in advance, but if 2010-2011 is any indication of what lies ahead this winter, we’re psyched! Read the full OpenSnow prediction.
“Base to Base Gondola” Connects Palisades Tahoe to Alpine
It’s hereeeeee! The long-awaited Base to Base Gondola opens this winter, marking a new era of legendary skiing and riding at Palisades Tahoe.
Skiers and riders will now have uninterrupted access to all 6,000 acres of terrain at both Alpine Meadows and Palisades Tahoe in addition to one more way to access the steeps and chutes off of KT-22. You no longer have to choose between Alpine or Palisades – explore both mountains with easy access to epic terrain!
The Base to Base Gondola will deliver a seamless, connected resort experience. Plus, can we talk about the views?! Spanning 2.4 miles and 2,000 vertical feet, the 16-minute ride will be one to remember.
Northstar California Upgrades Comstock Express
Happy 50th anniversary to Northstar! And that’s not the only thing we’re celebrating. This winter, we’re looking forward to riding the brand new and improved Comstock Express lift, a high-speed six-person chair.
Summer crews have been hard at work to ensure the lift is on-schedule to open this winter. As one of the mountain’s most popular lifts, the improvement from a four-person chair to a six-person high-speed lift can’t be understated. Shorter wait times and more uphill capacity means we’ll be hearing a lot more “yeeeeews!” on the slopes.
Hurry – get your pass before prices go up Sept. 5th!
